The “APP TAGGING INITIALIZATION FAILED” BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) error appears on the screen during the initialization process for Windows and is most likely caused by corrupted or missing device driver or a faulty device that has been recently installed. It means that initialization of an application has failed while being loaded by the operating system. This error usually appears when a device driver is corrupted, is incorrectly installed, or is not updated.
This BSOD error is also known as “APP_TAGGING_INITIALIZATION_FAILED” and “Windows STOP 0x0000010A“. It displays an error message that informs the user that the shutdown has been effected to prevent damage to the system.
To fix the “APP TAGGING INITIALIZATION FAILED” BSOD error, you have to check recently installed drivers, particularly for video devices and chipsets. You have to check the installed driver to ensure that it is compatible with the system and the installed video adapter. To do this, visit the official download sites for drivers such as the Intel, Nvidia and AMD websites. Compare the installed driver with the latest updated version from any of these download sites and if necessary, update the driver or install a new version.
This BSOD error can also be resolved by the installation of software updates and patches, including non-critical updates for Windows. To do this, use the Web browser to access Windows Update and follow the prompts and instructions for installing the patches.
If the BSOD error appeared immediately after the installation of a new device, shutdown the computer, remove the device, and reboot the system. You can also resolve this issue by restoring Windows to an earlier point, which you can do by accessing the System Restore process from the Control Panel. Open the Control Panel and then type the command system restore in the dialog box. Follow the instructions that appear in the dialog box to install the last good system configuration.
