The BOUND_IMAGE_UNSUPPORTED BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) error may appear during the initialization process for Windows XP, Vista, 2000, 2008, and Windows 7 and 8. It means that a problem has been encountered during the boot process due to a faulty or missing driver, and the emergency shutdown of the computer is implemented to prevent damage and data loss.
The BSOD error is usually caused by hardware or device driver issues, such as an outdated, corrupted, or damaged driver. It may also be due to a recently installed hardware or driver that is incompatible with the computer and the operating system.
This BSOD error is also known as “BOUND_IMAGE_UNSUPPORTED” and “STOP 0x00000097“. Some users of Windows OS have reported this error, which normally appears on the screen during the initialization of the system as:
You can resolve the BOUND IMAGE UNSUPPORTED BSOD by installing the latest software updates from Windows, and by updating or getting the latest versions of drivers.
To resolve the BSOD by installing Windows software updates, you have to check for the availability of both critical and non-critical updates using the Internet Explorer (IE). To install updates manually, open IE, click on Tools, and then choose Windows Updates. Follow the instructions and prompts that appear on the screen to download and install updates.
Alternatively you can use Driver Reviver to update your computer drivers. If an out of date driver is the cause of the problem then this will fix the problem.
To resolve the BSOD error that is caused by driver issues, you can install the latest versions, particularly for chipset and video drivers, by visiting the official download sites of Intel, Nvidia, and ATI for video drivers, or the download sites of Intel and AMD for chipset and CPU drivers. You can also resolve this issue by rolling back a device driver to a version prior to a driver update that has been identified to cause the error.
