Files with .kpp extension also known as Kid Pix Presentation (KPP) files are presentation data files created using Kid Pix, a creative software application which was originally built by Craig Hickman in 1989 prompted by his desire to provide an easy-to-use drawing program for children. The file can hold slides with different images and pictures that can run as slide presentation with music and sounds. By the use of this data file, animation can also be created through the use of several images as animation frames. Under the animation option, the file may contain “digital puppets”, “moopies”, “stampimator”, static and animated graphic arts and audio recordings that can be obtained using the premade tools of the program. The Kid Pix program was originally meant to run under the Macintosh platform but the latest release is now supported by Windows. This data file can be opened and edited using The Learning Company Kid Pix De Luxe supported by Windows and Macintosh operating systems.

The Learning Company Kid Pix Deluxe

The Learning Company Kid Pix Deluxe

KidPix was created in the late 1980s by Craig Hickman as he watched his son use the default bitmap graphics editor in Mac with some difficulty. Broderbund released it in the nineties with Software MacKiev getting involved in the development of the software since then until it bought the trademark and copyrights to it in 2011. Today, Kid Pix Deluxe under the brand of The Learning Company has been upgraded to a 3D version, which produces videos that can be exported to MOV or AVI formats and uploaded to YouTube. The software is a children's drawing tool that combines sound and clip art images to produce slideshows with voice-over narration, background music, and sound effects. Children create visually engaging digital artworks and short animation, which they can integrate with Apple's iLike application suite, which includes iMovie, iTunes, iPhoto, and Garage Band.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .kpp files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .kpp. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
