LRX files contain Sony "BroadBand eBook" information that may include texts, images, and other information. LRX files are composed of a header, the objects and the index of the objects and they are usually saved in encrypted binary file format. The header of LRX files contains information including the version, the root object identification, the type of thumbnail image, deflated data values, the obfuscation key, the direction flag binding, the size of the data after deflation, etc. LRX and LRF files are the same when it comes to the two available formats of Bbeb books they are comprised of but they differ because LRF files are not encrypted while LRX files are encrypted and even protected using Digital Rights Management or DRM, wherein it limits the number of devices that may be used to open LRX files.

Sony Reader

Sony Reader

Sony Reader is an e-book reader that uses an electronic paper display which can be viewed under direct sunlight, does not require image static maintenance through power , and it can be viewed in portrait and landscape. It displays Adobe PDF file format, ePub file format, RSS newsfeeds, JPEGs, and BBeB or BroadBand eBook file format and is compatible with the Adobe digital rights management or DRM protected PDF and ePub files that enabled users to borrow ebooks from libraries around the world. The reader supports TXT and RTF documents, but only those with Latin characters. Other character sets are not displayed correctly, the Sony models that sold in the US can only work with Latin characters. It can also play MP3 and AAC audio files that are unencrypted. The DRM rules allow e-books that are purchased to be read only on six maximum devices, and one of them should be running on personal computer. Sharing of these purchased e-Books to another person's devices and accounts is forbidden, but users may register five Readers in a single account and they can share books from within the account. Sony sells Reader e-books in the Sony eBook Library store that are available in US, UK, Japan, Germany, Austria, and Canada.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .lrx files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .lrx. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
