File type:
MySQL Database File/Visual Basic Form File
You're here because you have a file that has a file extension ending in .frm. Files with the file extension .frm can only be launched by certain applications. It's possible that .frm files are data files rather than documents or media, which means they're not meant to be viewed at all.
what is a .frm file?
The .frm file extension is commonly used in different types of files. One, it is implemented as MySQL Database Format Files, and files with this extension are those that contain information related to the format and structure of MySQL databases. Files in this format can be opened in any operating system that has MySQL installed. Two, this file extension is also known as a Form File where it is used to refer to Visual Basic Text Forms, and files with this extension are text information that is contained in a Visual Basic Form. These applications are integrated with compatibility support for widely used versions of Microsoft Windows, which means Windows users can install these applications in order to open and view the content of these FRM files.
how to open a .frm file?
Launch a .frm file, or any other file on your PC, by double-clicking it. If your file associations are set up correctly, the application that's meant to open your .frm file will open it. It's possible you may need to download or purchase the correct application. It's also possible that you have the correct application on your PC, but .frm files aren't yet associated with it. In this case, when you try to open a .frm file, you can tell Windows which application is the correct one for that file. From then on, opening a .frm file will open the correct application. Microsoft SQL Server (2008)
Microsoft SQL Server (2008)
SQL Server 2008, formerly codenamed Katmai, was released on August 6, 2008 and goals to make data self organizing, management self-tuning, and self maintaining with the improvement of SQL Server Always On technologies, to give almost-zero downtime. SQL Server 2008 also includes support for structured and semi-structured data, as well as digital media formats for pictures, audio, video and other multimedia data. In present versions, such multimedia data can be saved as BLOBs (binary large objects), but they are generic bit streams. It also natively supports hierarchical data, and includes T-SQL constructs to directly deal with them, without using recursive queries. Basic awareness of multimedia data will permit specialized functions to be performed on them. According to Paul Flessner, senior Vice President, Server Applications, Microsoft Corp., SQL Server 2008 can be a data storage backend for different varieties of data: XML, email, time/calendar, file, document, spatial, etc as well as perform search, query, analysis, sharing, and synchronization across all data types.
Visual Basic (VB) is an event-driven programming language and integrated development environment (IDE) from Microsoft for its COM programming model that was first released in 1991. Visual Basic is fairly easy to learn and use. Visual Basic was derived from Beginners All-purpose Symbolic Instructional Code (BASIC) and enables rapid application development (RAD) of graphical user interface (GUI) applications, and it can be used to create databases with Data Access Objects, Remote Data Objects, or ActiveX Data Objects. It can also generate ActiveX controls and objects. The language not only permits programmers to make simple GUI applications, but also to develop applications with more complex functionalities. Programming in VB is a combination of visually arranging components or controls on a form, specifying attributes and actions of those components, and writing additional lines of code for more functionality. Scripting languages like VBA and VBScript are similar, in terms of syntax, to Visual Basic, but perform differently. VB can generate executables (EXE files), ActiveX controls, or DLL files, but is mainly used to build up Windows applications and to interface database systems.
Be careful not to rename the extension on .frm files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.
what is a file extension?
A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .frm. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
