You're here because you have a file that has a file extension ending in .gbx. Files with the file extension .gbx can only be launched by certain applications. It's possible that .gbx files are data files rather than documents or media, which means they're not meant to be viewed at all.
what is a .gbx file?
A Gerber PCB file is encoded and compressed with specifications used by software developed for creating and editing Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designs and layouts, and this file is classified as a CAD file, while these PCB design applications are categorized as CAD software. As the name suggests, a Gerber PCB file is integrated with Gerber CAD encoding and compression standards. "CAD" in CAD software stands for Computer-Aided Design, and these Gerber PCB files are saved in the GBX format and are affixed with the .gbx extension. Certain Computer Aided Manufacturing applications use these GBX files for its project output files. These CAD and CAM programs can also be used to simulate certain functionalities implemented into a GBX design layout project by the author of the GBX file. The PentaLogix ViewMate software can be used to open and view the content of these GBX files, and the data stored in a GBX file includes digital 3D objects and images, numerical and statistical data, formatting and layout design elements among other metadata info corresponding to a particular GBX project.
how to open a .gbx file?
Launch a .gbx file, or any other file on your PC, by double-clicking it. If your file associations are set up correctly, the application that's meant to open your .gbx file will open it. It's possible you may need to download or purchase the correct application. It's also possible that you have the correct application on your PC, but .gbx files aren't yet associated with it. In this case, when you try to open a .gbx file, you can tell Windows which application is the correct one for that file. From then on, opening a .gbx file will open the correct application. PentaLogix ViewMate
PentaLogix ViewMate
The PentaLogix ViewMate is a freeware used for viewing Gerber files used in the PCB design and layout. The Gerber file is a data that controls the photo plotter which are primarily used for PCB production. The data contains descriptions of PCB components like copper layers, solder mask, legend, drill holes and others. Photoplotter is a mechanical machine that reveals the actualized image like monochromatic film through the help of a controlled light source and computer. This software is developed by Pentalogix, Inc. and offers three versions namely ViewMate Pro, ViewMate Deluxe and the freeware ViewMate with Smart DFM. Both Deluxe and Pro versions can be used not only by viewing Gerber files but also as Gerber editors. Aside from being able to view and edit Gerber files they are also capable of viewing Excellon drill files. However, the said applications are commercial ware bundled with one year of free updates.
The Osmond PCB software was developed by Osmond and it is categorized as a Printed Circuit Board planning tool. It is used for the designing of printed circuit boards without limits because this tool allows users to deign printed circuit boards no matter what size, shape or no matter how many layers it has. Osmond PCB is also equipped with flexibility features because it supports both metric and imperial units so whichever users like to use, they can work better with it. Using Osmond also allows users to move parts or perform re-orientation as it is packed with all the tools needed for this purpose. Users are also guided via Osmond’s flexible grid feature as well as users are also allowed to define new parts or edit existing parts via the Osmond Parts Editor feature. When it comes to finishes, Osmond is also equipped with features that allow users to check their designs if they are error-free and if they meet the users’ needs.
Cadence OrCAD PCB Designer is an easy- to-use layout and editing software from Cadence Desiogn Systems, Inc. used in the design of Printed Circuit Boards (PCB). The technology involved is based on the Allegro PCB technology with features that speed-up design creation, from placement, routing, and through to manufacturing. It has an integrated design flow that includes tools like component tools, an auto/interactive router, design capture technology, a PCB editor, constraint manager, and interfaces for manufacturing and mechanical CAD. The PCB Editor provides an interactive environment for designing and editing simple to complex and multi-layered PCBs. The Cadence SPECTRA integrated into the software is capable of handling routing challenges that require complex design rules. For speed and efficient use of routing area, OrCAD PCB Designer makes use of a shape-based algorithm. Cadence operating system are supported on UNIX and PC platforms, IBM AIX 5.3 OS on the PowerPC hardware platform, Windows XP Professional and Windows 2000.
Be careful not to rename the extension on .gbx files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.
what is a file extension?
A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .gbx. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
