PentaLogix ViewMate

The PentaLogix ViewMate is a freeware used for viewing Gerber files used in the PCB design and layout. The Gerber file is a data that controls the photo plotter which are primarily used for PCB production. The data contains descriptions of PCB components like copper layers, solder mask, legend, drill holes and others. Photoplotter is a mechanical machine that reveals the actualized image like monochromatic film through the help of a controlled light source and computer. This software is developed by Pentalogix, Inc. and offers three versions namely ViewMate Pro, ViewMate Deluxe and the freeware ViewMate with Smart DFM. Both Deluxe and Pro versions can be used not only by viewing Gerber files but also as Gerber editors. Aside from being able to view and edit Gerber files they are also capable of viewing Excellon drill files. However, the said applications are commercial ware bundled with one year of free updates.

The Osmond PCB software was developed by Osmond and it is categorized as a Printed Circuit Board planning tool. It is used for the designing of printed circuit boards without limits because this tool allows users to deign printed circuit boards no matter what size, shape or no matter how many layers it has. Osmond PCB is also equipped with flexibility features because it supports both metric and imperial units so whichever users like to use, they can work better with it. Cadence OrCAD PCB Designer is an easy- to-use layout and editing software from Cadence Desiogn Systems, Inc. used in the design of Printed Circuit Boards (PCB). The technology involved is based on the Allegro PCB technology with features that speed-up design creation, from placement, routing, and through to manufacturing. It has an integrated design flow that includes tools like component tools, an auto/interactive router, design capture technology, a PCB editor, constraint manager, and interfaces for manufacturing and mechanical CAD. The PCB Editor provides an interactive environment for designing and editing simple to complex and multi-layered PCBs. The Cadence SPECTRA integrated into the software is capable of handling routing challenges that require complex design rules. For speed and efficient use of routing area, OrCAD PCB Designer makes use of a shape-based algorithm. Cadence operating system are supported on UNIX and PC platforms, IBM AIX 5.3 OS on the PowerPC hardware platform, Windows XP Professional and Windows 2000.
