Files affixed with the PMM extension are data files created by Pegasus Mail to contain information on its electronic mail. Pegasus Mail is a free emailing program created by Windows. It may also hold information on drafts, received emails and sent emails and specially developed to save alls email messages for a user account. It can enable multiple users and mailboxes in a single system. It is also closely related to Mercury Mail Transport system, a free standard- based mail server solution. To view and manage files in the PMM format, it may require the user to have its authoring program, Pegasus Mail, installed into the user’s computer. Since such files are literally your email messages, editing, deleting and over-all management of PMM files will solely depend upon your liking. To manage PMM files outside its original program, users may have to convert such files to another format compatible with the desired software.

Pegasus Mail

The Pegasus Mail is a freeware or donationware email program that allows one user or several users to access and manage email based on local installation or network. Generally, this software is available for Microsoft Windows platforms and a version was also released for Mac. It supports multiple POP3, IMAP, SMTP, and Novell's Message Handling System (MHS) protocols. It provides a filtering facility like Bayesian spam filters to allow user to preview, subscribe or unsubscribe to messages. To avoid the malware attacks and security breach, the software used their own HTML layout engine and prevents execution of ActiveX or Javcascript commands. It allows users to categorized and managed emails depending on selected criteria. It provides selection of message templates, plain text and HTML formatting message editor. Aside from reading messages, attached images like JPG or PNG are also viewable. Developed by David Harris, the first version was released for Novell Netware’s MS DOS clients.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .pmm files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .pmm. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
