Tableau Desktop is a program used to produce graphics, reports and dashboards of any given data. The source can be in the form of a simple spreadsheet (Excel workbook), text files (.csv) or a database (SQL server or Oracle). Once information is entered into the program, it can display information in various graphical displays. Data can created in form of a chart, table, plot or a map. It also allows users to view, filter, sort, organize, calculate and summarize data. Data and results can be shared to any Tableau users or by copying the produced output into other programs like Microsoft office. Tableau Desktop works with Windows 7, XP, Vista, Server 2008/ 2003 and Microsoft Windows 8. A minimum system requirement of AMD Opteron or a Pentium 4 is a required with 250 MB of available disk space. Being a data visualization program, a 32-bit color depth is highly recommended for better graphic output.

Tableau Reader

Tableau Reader is a desktop application that allows user to open and view file formats from Tableau Desktop. Users can open data visualizations and workbooks with this program. It can also filter and sort files as well as interact with information at hand using data examination. It can also export other files for viewing and can be used to produce printer-friendly documents. It is used as a collaboration tool to share analytical information. This application is used by Tableau Desktop to create web-based analysis of data. It is Unicode enabled and can be used with data stored in various languages. Its interface and corresponding documentations are in English. This software requires Windows XP, Vista Server 2003/ 2008/ 2012 and Windows 7 & 8. It needs at least 56 MB of free space, 32-bit color depth, 32-bit / 64-bit version of Windows.
